Founder John Bovard began his career at one of the nation’s largest accounting firms, gaining exposure to complex financial systems, sophisticated tax strategies, and the resources typically reserved for large corporations. But over time, John noticed something troubling: many small business owners and first-time entrepreneurs lacked access to this same level of guidance. Too often, they were handed reports they didn’t fully understand or tax returns that arrived once a year, with little explanation in between.
That gap became personal early on, when a close family member experienced firsthand the consequences of not understanding the financial side of a business. What began as the promise of entrepreneurship ended in devastating losses—losses that could have been mitigated with transparency, education, and the right professional partnership.

For more than a decade, Bovard CPA Group served clients throughout Chicago and the surrounding communities. The firm grew primarily through referrals—business owners telling other business owners, “These are the people you can trust.”
As our client base grew, so did our team and our vision. Lauren Alvarez joined the firm and quickly became an integral part of how we serve clients: bringing leadership, perspective, and a shared commitment to partnership-driven accounting.
